Born in Ljubljana, Doncic showed his quality as a youth player for Union Olimpija, before joining the youth academy of Spanish club Real Madrid. He made his first-team debut in 2015, at the age of 16, thereby becoming the youngest player in the club’s history to do so.
Two years later, he led Madrid to the 2018 Euro League title, winning the EuroLeague MVP as well as the Final Four MVP. Doncic was also named ACB Player of the Year and has won consecutive EuroLeague Rising Star and ACB Young Player of the Year awards. He was also selected to the EuroLeague 2010-20 All-Decade Team.

In 2018, Doncic joined the NBA draft and became a member of the Dallas Mavericks. He was unanimously selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and won Rookie of the Year for the 2018–2019 season. During his second season in the NBA, he was selected for the first NBA All-Star game of his career.
