Striker of the Stade Rennais club, Amine Gouiri opened up to the media about his decision to play for Algeria instead of France, even though he had 74 caps for the youth team “Les Bleus” and even played for U21 team at the recent U21 EURO 2023 tournament.

Amine Gouiri chose Algeria instead of waiting for France.
When asked about the decision, Gouiri said: “I thought a lot about it over the summer, with my agents, family and friends. I weighed the pros and cons and came to this decision. There are many things that disadvantage Algeria. This is my roots, my family’s hometown.”
“This is a country I know well because I have been there often since I was a child. It’s also a team that I’ve followed a lot and I’ve always loved their passion for football. I want to represent all of that,” he added.

Amine Gouiri played for the French youth team in the past.
Amine Gouiri has been a mainstay in the attacking line representing Ligue 1 in the past few years. However, with the star lineup that the French team currently possesses, the chance for him to play for “Les Bleus” is almost zero.
