United have signed Malacia in a reported deal of £12.95m after the Dutch full-back was close to joining French club Lyon. The 22-year-old has agreed a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

It is a landmark deal for manager Ten Hag, who has been connected to a string of potential signings before making Malacia the first acquisition of his Manchester United reign.

Malacia, who made 136 appearances for Feyenoord, said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling to join MU This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new teammates and a great coach. I know about the qualities he has and what he demands in his players.Although I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I have I can promise MU fans that I will drop everything on the pitch every time I put on the red shirt.”

Malacia, who plays mostly at left-back, is expected to feature in United’s squad for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on July 8. “I will always be grateful to Feyenoord for all they have done for me and my family. This would not have been possible without them. Now I’m ready to focus on my future with MU, and help my new club achieve success,” Malacia said.

Dutch player Malacia is likely to compete with England left-back Luke Shaw for a place in MU’s starting line-up, Old Trafford’s director of football John Murtough said: “Tyrell is one Dynamic, exciting young player with outstanding experience for his age, including 5 seasons in the Eredivisie, 1 European final and international appearances for the Netherlands. We look forward to seeing him continue to develop under Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff in the years to come.”
Ten Hag’s recruitment process is starting to accelerate, with Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen believed to have agreed to join United on a free transfer after an impressive loan spell at Brentford last season. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong and Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez are also said to be close to moving to Old Trafford.
Besides reforming the squad that finished sixth in the Premier League last season, coach Ten Hag has to deal with the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. CR7 has missed training sessions for “family reasons” after allegedly asking for a transfer after MU failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
