In September 2022, former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez officially returned to Europe to play after a short time with Qatar’s Al Rayyan club.
This is James’ 5th club since he shone with 6 goals scored for the Colombian national team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
However, this relationship did not last long. On April 13, Olympiacos announced the early termination of the contract with James Rodriguez. The Colombian star was unemployed at the age of 31.
“Thanks for the time we spent together. Although the club and I have separate paths, I still have a special affection and feel that I will always be welcome at the Olympiacos family. Wish the team all the best. the most beautiful in the future,” Rodriguez shared on his personal page.
Rodriguez was once considered the world’s top talent after shining in the 2014 World Cup. He moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 for a record €75 million from AS Monaco, scoring 24 goals in 86 caps. Then, Rodriguez joined Bayern Munich but played poorly.
The player born in 1991 gradually regained his value when he worked with coach Carlo Ancelotti at Everton. However, as soon as the Italian coach left Goodison Park to lead Real Madrid, James was immediately kicked out of the plan by Rafa Benitez and pushed to Asia.
Clearly, Rodriguez’s club career can’t match his success with the national team. This talented midfielder’s 11 years of playing at major European clubs end in 2021 after a lackluster performance in the Premier League with Everton.
According to AS, Rodriguez is talented but has no effort in his career. Not to mention, the fast-changing football world, no place for traditional number 10s like Rodriguez, made him gradually disappear.
At this point, it is very difficult for Rodriguez to return to the top. However, there are still many stops waiting for this player. Rodriguez is training alone in Madrid while his agent is negotiating with potential landings.
So far, the only team that has made its interest public is Botafogo. The Brazilian team made the first offer for the Colombian player but was rejected. Globlo Esporte insists that Botafogo is not giving up and will soon make a second offer.
The Brazilian club are proposing a fixed monthly salary and additional terms in the contract regarding performance (participation in goals and number of appearances).
Rodriguez’s main desire is to continue playing in Europe, but now that dream is slowly becoming a distant prospect. Mexico, Indonesia and Saudi Pro League are other destinations that want the midfielder’s services.
In general, “number 10” is entering the final stage and it is a pity that he cannot reach his playing career.
