After a 2-3 loss to Villarreal, Federico Valverde reached out to Villarreal’s Alex Baena in the parking lot. The Uruguayan star was angry when he received a mockery from his opponent, thereby punching Baena. This incident has just appeared the latest information.
According to Daily Mail, Baena of Villarreal has decided to prosecute Valverde. Valverde will still escape any sporting punishment, avoiding a 12-match ban, as Villarreal decided not to take the case to the Spanish Football Federation and it was not included in the referee’s report. However, Villarreal has confirmed police will be involved in the investigation and could open the door for Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission to step in.
Earlier, Baena revealed to local journalists on Sunday morning that the matter would be resolved without taking any further action. But he changed his mind and the host club supported the player.
Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission is the state agency that has the authority to issue bans. It remains unclear whether Valverde’s case will be handled by Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission or by the police.
