Rasmus Hojlund looked to have scored his first goal for Manchester United against Brighton at Old Trafford, but the Dane’s goal was stripped away.
After Brighton scored in the 20th minute thanks to Danny Welbeck’s excellent finish, Rasmus was the next to score. His right-footed shot created jubilation for the home fans but after a long VAR check, the goal was ruled out.
Replay video shows that Marcus Rashford may have sent the ball out of play. Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has given his view on the incident.
“Yes, it was (the right decision), but it was very close. I can understand why the assistant didn’t see it and it took a lot of frames to decide this,” he said. But VAR did the right thing.”
The Red Devils ultimately failed with a score of 1-3, are currently ranked 13th in the rankings and are likely to fall even deeper when the team behind them plays round 5.
