The Dutch forward looks set to become one of Europe’s most sought-after players in the January transfer window following his dazzling displays for PSV Eindhoven and at the World Cup. Man Utd is said to be very interested in Gakpo, countryman Erik ten Hag rates him very highly.
However, the Red Brigade took the lead when the Dutch side confirmed an agreement had been made. An official statement from the Eredivisie club reads: “PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker is heading to England, where he will have to go through defenders. necessary procedures prior to the completion of the transfer.”

Gakpo played brilliantly for Van Gaal in the World Cup.
There have been many players who have moved from the Netherlands to England in recent years, but the success rate is not very high, especially those in attack. It remains to be seen which young Dutchman will fit into Liverpool’s plans should he complete his move to Anfield in the middle of the season.
Previously, former Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal had a look at Gakpo’s ability to coach him at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and pointed out a specific position where he could develop. Speaking earlier this month, the former Man Utd boss said: “Things can change but Cody has everything it takes to be a star. He has a great personality to be a star player. because he’s open to everything.”
“Cody is a very young player – he’s 23 but looks younger. He’s only been playing for PSV for 2, 3 years and always plays from the left wing. He didn’t want to play in the center or 10, but he played on the right for me. Now he thinks I’m a great head coach!”
Gakpo was one of the standout players at the World Cup, scoring three goals to help Oranje reach the quarter-finals, only to fall to eventual champions Argentina. That form is a continuation of the excellent form he enjoyed during the first half of the season for his club.

Gakpo is in high form in all competitions.
The 23-year-old had scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions before the World Cup break – most of those games he was positioned on the left flank. Should Gakpo go to Merseyside, the young Dutchman could take up an immediate role as Luis Diaz will be out for the foreseeable future through injury. Meanwhile, Portuguese striker Diogo Jota is also out. With the recent record signing Darwin Nunez being used in this position and playing unconvincing, Gakpo is expected to not disappoint Liverpool.
