Leonardo Bonucci’s Union Berlin has parted ways with legendary strategist Urs Fischer. The Italy international joined Union Berlin as a free agent from Juventus in the summer. He sees a very different perspective from what they had last year, when the team won fourth place in the Bundesliga and got tickets to the Champions League.
They are experiencing a series of 13 consecutive defeats in all competitions until the 1-1 draw with Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Head coach Urs Fischer and assistant Markus Hoffmann will leave by mutual consent after 5 years in office. According to DW, Union Berlin has sought an interim manager, in Marco Grote, who was the coach of the club’s U19 team.
But the most interesting thing is that his assistant is his “right hand” Marie-Louise Eta. She became the first female assistant coach at a Bundesliga club.
A former player who retired in 2019, Eta began his coaching career by coaching youth levels.
