Goal revealed when Haaland signed with Man City last summer, the Etihad Stadium leadership agreed to insert a clause to release the player’s contract, but only if Pep Guardiola left the club in 2023.
As that scenario unfolds, Haaland will be allowed to leave City in 2024 with a release clause of up to €200m (£175.5m). However, as Pep does not leave City before 2023, Haaland’s release clause is void. In November 2022, the Catalan strategist agreed to sign a two-year contract extension with Man City.
Late last year, agent Rafaela Pimenta confirmed that there exists a contract release clause between Haaland and Man City and will be activated from 2024.
“Haaland’s release clause (with Man City – PV)? I can’t comment on that. He’s really a top player. His father is also very tight-lipped,” Pimenta told. Sky Sports. “But I can confirm that there is a release clause, effective from 2024 for 200 million euros.”
British media revealed that Haaland’s contract release clause only applies to clubs outside the Premier League. They will have to pay a release clause of up to 200 million euros (£175.5 million). The figure of 200 million euros will also decrease year by year Haaland’s contract with the Etihad Stadium team.
However, in many interviews afterwards, Pep denied that Haaland had a contract release clause: “It’s not true. He (Haaland – PV) does not have a contract release clause to move to Real. Madrid or any other team.”
