On November 18, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced that it would not adjust the schedule of the Thai League season 2022/23 as scheduled. The reason is that the clubs do not agree with this plan. The rush of competition will greatly affect the player’s health, increasing the risk of injury.
Initially, FAT wanted the Thai League 2022/23 to end earlier so that young players could join the Thai U23 team to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games. As planned, the Thai League will end on May 14. while the time of SEA Games 32 is from May 5-16.
Thus, with the latest decision, U23 Thailand will not have the service of the top young players in the 32nd SEA Games.
“It will be very difficult for us to summon A-list players for the 32nd SEA Games. We have to consider another option. Thailand U23 also has to wait for the national team to finalize the list first. If the team summons players. In the U23 group, we also need to recalculate. Our original plan that we have prepared may not be able to be implemented,” said Mr. Issara Sritaro, the new head coach of Thailand U23, after FAT’s new decision.
Before that, when revealing the plan to adjust the match schedule, FAT received many waves of objections. Mr. Newin Chidchob, president of Buriram United club, was the strongest critic.
“The dream of the Thai people is to see the national flag flying over a stadium during the World Cup. But in the end, we pursued our goal of becoming the champion of the small region. This continued. performing for many years,” said Mr. Chidchob.
“Don’t care about FIFA Days, destroy the professional league system to become the SEA Games champion. That is the vision of an amateur, the idea of someone who knows nothing about professional football. They do not care. There is a plan to develop Thai football and get close to the World Cup,” said Buriram, angry.
