Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson are two of several first-team players not on international duty this November. Therefore, they were named in the U21 Arsenal squad to meet U21 Reading in the EFL Trophy framework.
Reading, who are bottom of League One, made 11 changes from their last match. Meanwhile, this is Arsenal’s first match in this tournament, since it was renamed Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
This was the match in which Nelson had an assist. Vieira made a stronger impression when scoring on the penalty spot at the end of the first half. However, at 82 minutes, The Portuguese midfielder missed the opportunity to shorten the score to 4-3 when he missed a penalty kick. At the end of the match, Arsenal still had a few players when Ayden Heaven received a direct red card.
In the end, Arsenal U21 lost with a score of 2-5 in a disappointing manner. Before that, the Gunners had a series of 6 consecutive unbeaten matches.
This season, Vieira has only played 238 minutes in the Premier League. He was just sent off in the match against Burnley last weekend.
