After Fagioli, it was Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo’s turn to be “questioned” by the police, forcing the duo to leave the Italian team’s concentration camp for the matches against Malta and England in Group C, Euro 2024 qualifying. Both players were accused of violating betting regulations, when Zaniolo bet on AS Roma’s Coppa Italia matches, while he was present in the match that day.

Tonali and Zaniolo left the Italian team because of illegal betting.
Many sources said, Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo had to return home after their encounter with the police in Coverciano, where the 2006 World Cup champion is based. The Italian Football Federation, FIGC also confirmed the above information.
“The federation informs that, late this afternoon, the Turin Prosecutor’s office announced investigative activities against Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo, both of whom are currently gathering with the national team at the Center Federal Engineering of Coverciano,” FIGC said.

This duo is facing the risk of a long-term suspension.
“Regardless of the allegations, we believe that in this situation the players are not in the best condition to prepare for the two matches in the coming days. The federation also decided to protect them, allowing they return to the club”.
