Specifically, Liverpool said there was an “ongoing incident” involving Luis Diaz’s family amid reports that the striker’s parents were kidnapped in Colombia. It has since been confirmed that his mother was rescued but his father remains missing.
The whereabouts of Luis Diaz’s father have not been found.
The Kop said: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm that we are aware of the ongoing incident involving Luis Diaz’s family.
We sincerely hope that the problem will be resolved safely and as soon as possible. Meanwhile, player welfare will continue to be our top priority.”
Colombian President Gustavo Petro said: “During an operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz’s mother was rescued, we continue to search for the father.”
Currently, the kidnappers’ motives are unknown.
