Erik ten Hag has used Bruno Fernandes, who mainly plays as a central attacking midfielder, as a winger in recent weeks. The 28-year-old has played well in an unfamiliar role but has also shown excellence after being returned to his usual No. 10 spot in a 4-1 win over Real Betis last week.
However, the Portuguese could be forced to take the wing with Antony and Alejandro Garnacho both absent for tomorrow’s game. Speaking before the game, Ten Hag put Bruno on the list of potential options on the wing. Specifically, he shared:
“Antony is sick. We have options and we’ll see tomorrow. The team also has Elanga, Bruno and Facundo Pellistri“.

Ten Hag intends to use Bruno in front of Betis.
Ten Hag’s willingness to use Bruno on the wing is a move not supported by Paul Scholes. Speaking after the impressive win over Real Betis last week, Scholes commented on BT Sport:
“Some players have been criticized, especially Bruno, I think he is excellent when he plays in a position that is his forte which is the central area. I hope we never see him on the wing because that’s not his strength.”
