According to Chinese media, Li Tie was arrested while attending a coach training course organized by the Chinese Football Federation in Dalian on November 12. He was taken to the General Administration of Sports and Sports of China to serve the investigation of the corruption scandal.
Sina said that in 2021, when Li Tie was serving as the head coach of the Chinese team, he changed the way he cooperated with the Wuhan team, re-signing the contract as general manager and full control of the club.
During the period of coaching the Wuhan team in 2018 and 2019, Li Tie received an annual salary of about 41 billion dong. After “backstage” in 2020, his annual salary has reached about 100 billion VND.
The 45-year-old military leader took advantage of the trust from the leadership of the Wuhan team to benefit himself and invest in business. According to the initial investigation, there are a total of 9 affiliated companies under the name Li Tie in the fields of football training, player brokerage and stadium operation. Li Tie is a shareholder of 6 operating companies, in which he holds 90% of the shares.
Previously, to investigate Li Tie’s case, the General Administration of Sport of China summoned a number of former Shanghai players and a number of famous coaches and players of Chinese football. Sina said this is the next attempt to clean up Chinese football.
