On the official Twitter account, MU posted 2 articles about 30 minutes apart. In the first post right after the news of De Gea’s departure from the club was broadcast, the Red Devils posted a photo of thanks to the Spaniard with a brief status line: “Forever a United legend. Thank you for everything.”
In the next post, MU posted a photo of De Gea taking a photo with the whole team, holding an individual trophy with the status line: “An amazingly dedicated player, and an extremely special person. Wish him every success in the future”.
For his part, head coach Erik ten Hag also shared a couple of lines about De Gea on MU’s homepage. He said: “To be able to play for MU even for even one game requires great quality and character. But De Gea has done it 545 times in 12 years. It is an exceptional achievement. especially in the goalkeeper position, where every game puts you in the center of attention.
Winning the Player of the Year award from both fans and teammates, four times each, has shown De Gea’s form. He will always be remembered as one of the best goalkeepers in the club’s history.
Personally, I am grateful for the 25 clean sheets that De Gea brought to the team last season, as well as for his overall contribution on the pitch during my first year at the club. All the players and staff at the club send their best wishes to De Gea for the next phase of his career.”
De Gea has announced his departure from MU after 12 years of working. In total, the Spaniard made 545 appearances for MU, kept 190 clean sheets and received 590 goals. De Gea has won a total of 8 titles at MU including 1 Premier League, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, 3 Super Cups and 1 Europa League.
Most recently, De Gea wrote an emotional farewell letter to MU. A new chapter will open in the 32-year-old goalkeeper’s career.
