At the beginning of the 2022/2023 season, Dirk Kuyt started his coaching career when leading ADO Den Haag – a Dutch team. The former Liverpool player had to get used to failure.
Under Kuyt, Den Haag lost 16 matches and fell to 17th place in the Dutch 2nd division (Erste Divisie). As was inevitable, the former “Orange Cyclone” player was fired by the club’s board of directors.
But now, Kuyt officially returned after accepting the position to lead the Belgian club, Beerschot until the end of the season. On his appointment, the strategist born in 1980 said: “I am very happy to agree terms with Beershot, a football club with a long history in Belgium. This is the perfect step forward in my coaching career.” I can’t wait to start work with lots of energy.
As a coach, I choose attacking football with high intensity. I crave success. When I was a player, I was always determined and did not change my philosophy even when I entered coaching.”
Beershot currently occupies 2nd place in the Belgian 2nd division. After parting ways with coach Andreas Wieland, the club’s leadership needed to find a famous captain and Kuyt was targeted. Beershot is determined to return to the highest level of Belgian football after relegation in 2021.
The upper management believes that Dirk Kuyt will help the team achieve its goals. “From the first conversation, we had a strong connection with Dirk Kuyt. We were looking for a young and modern manager, someone with a burning desire to succeed. We trust Kuyt is the right person for the job,” the club’s sporting director, Gyorgy Csepregi, affirmed.
Dirk Kuyt is considered one of the successful Dutch players in the Premier League. Sticking with Liverpool for 6 seasons, the 43-year-old former star won the 2011/12 League Cup and became runner-up in the 2011/12 FA Cup and previously finished second in the 2006/07 Champions League. Through 285 appearances for the Anfield team, Kuyt contributed 71 goals and 43 assists.
