At the 2022 World Cup, referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz created many controversies. In the round of 16, between the Netherlands and Argentina, Mr. Lahoz drew 18 yellow cards and 1 red card for the players on the field.
After this match, Lahoz was not allowed to referee any more matches at the 2022 World Cup even though he was the number one candidate for the position of referee in the final.
