John Murtough has received a lot of criticism when Man Utd has not had an effective transfer strategy in recent times. Since 2021, under Murtough’s management, Man Utd has brought in Jadon Sancho and Antony. The two wingers cost £73 million and £86 million respectively but played ineffectively. Bringing in Casemiro for £60 million was also questioned.

Murtough failed to “woo” Kane.
According to Athletic, Murtough was also tasked with bringing England striker Harry Kane to Old Trafford but failed. In theory, Kane could have left Tottenham last year and it is a position the Red Devils have lacked for a long time.
The sudden departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in January caused them to rush into the market with a loan contract with Wout Weghorst. Meanwhile, Kane chose to leave England and join Bayern Munich.
Obviously, this is a pity because if there was a good striker, Man Utd’s performance would be greatly improved, instead of 8th in the Premier League as currently.
