The Institute of Statistics of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) annually selects the best players in the world, and this year, they put Croatian midfielder Luka Modric in the top 5.
Since 1988, IFFHS started to select the best players in the world every year, based on a number of criteria such as performances, wins, goals, trophies and Other criteria at club and national team level are taken into account.
In 2020, IFFHS has decided to reactivate its award, in which, they do not have a vote but only count based on statistics. Robert Lewandowski has won this award two years in a row, and now it belongs to PSG’s Lionel Messi, after his victory in the 2022 World Cup with the Argentina national team.
2nd place this year belongs to another Ligue 1 star, Kylian Mbappe. Karim Benzema finished third while fourth place belonged to his Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric. Man City striker Erling Haaland ranked 5th on the IFFHS’s shortlist.
