In the view of Shay Given, Manchester United may have signed Jonny Evans out of concern about defensive injuries, but Evans himself has convinced manager Erik Ten Hag in terms of expertise.
The former Manchester City goalkeeper shared:

Evans was retained by Man Utd.
“Man Utd had injury concerns at centre-back, so that’s probably the main reason they signed Evans. But, you have to commend Evans, he’s got his talent. had the opportunity to train with Man Utd during the pre-season and worked very hard.”
“Ten Hag saw enough from Evans to say ‘you know what, This guy is a perfect fit for what we need’.”
In the immediate future, Evans will only stick with Man Utd through a one-year contract. But if he shines in the times when Ten Hag gives him the opportunity to play, it is obvious that he can fully expect the Red Devils to extend his contract in the future.
