Real Madrid won the right to enter the round of 16 of the Champions League with the top position. They also top La Liga, 7 points ahead of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Don’t forget, Real only conceded 11 goals all season, 10 fewer than Barcelona and Girona. All of this comes while they are facing an injury crisis at the back.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, one of the best players in goal, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury before the season started, then it was Eder Militao’s turn.
Most recently, David Alaba was the victim of a similar injury in the match against Villarreal, and had to miss the rest of the season, possibly even missing Euro 2024.
Real realized that they had to sign a central defender to strengthen their squad. Raphael Varane is the top priority right now. However, Sport confirmed that the White Vultures asked Varane to reduce his salary by 50% when returning to the Bernabeu. Notably, Varane is said to agree.
He currently earns £340,000 a week at Old Trafford and only receive compensation of about 170,000 pounds per week if joining Real. On the other hand, Real also had to spend about 15 million pounds to buy Varane.
