The 31-year-old was on the bench in South Korea’s 4-0 win over Tunisia last week but played the full 90 minutes and scored in the 6-0 win over Vietnam.
Korean medical staff revealed that Son is being treated for a posterior groin injury. And in the final stages of the friendly match with Vietnam, the Spurs captain showed clear signs of discomfort on the field.
However, he was still allowed to play the rest of the match by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Son personally has his reasons for doing so.
He stated: “Injuries are an inevitable part of a football player’s life.
I was worried about whether to play in today’s match or not, but I cannot accept joining the Korean national team without playing in front of the fans.
I discussed with the coach and told him that I will play in this match. I couldn’t participate in much practice but I’m grateful to the coach for respecting my decision.”
