Former US captain Claudio Reyna and his wife Danielle – Giovanni Reyna’s parents – admit to having reported Gregg Berhalter’s domestic violence case 31 years ago to the American Football League.
Meanwhile, Berhalter himself has publicly stated that he once kicked his wife during an argument in 1991, and said there was “a third party” trying to use this information to threaten him.
Reyna’s family had many controversies with Gregg.
Danielle was recently disappointed when Berhalter received “forgiveness for doing something much worse” at a similar age to current Gio. Reyna has only played twice at the World Cup with both coming off the bench. Aside from Gio’s limited playing time at the World Cup, there are other signs of discontent between Reyna and Berhalter’s families.
Claudio Reyna, now the sporting director of Austin FC, and Berhalter played soccer together as young adults in high school before joining the team. Danielle Reyna and Rosalind Berhalter (Gregg’s wife) were roommates and teammates on the football team for four years at the University of North Carolina.
