Barcelona is embroiled in bribery scandals. According to Spanish media, there were shady payments that took place between the Catalan team and the Dasnil company of former referee Enriquez Negreira, between 2001 and 2018.
Currently, the competent authorities are starting the investigation process. If the violation is verified, Barca will face heavy penalties from FIFA as well as UEFA.
Barca is being accused of bribing the referee.
According to the president of the Catalan Sports Court – Joan Maria Xiol, the Catalan team can accept relegation or even strip the title because of this incident. Sharing in front of the media, Maria Xiol said:
“Relegation is possible. UEFA may judge events of no international significance. If there is evidence of anomalies, they may have the authority to act. One of the penalties on that list is the loss of the title.”
On the Barca side, they will find ways to prove their innocence to not only escape the penalty but also show that this is a club that is always fair-play.
