The Ballon D’Or campaign rankings were revealed on Twitter on Monday, with Messi seen as the leader with 446 points. The Argentine striker is considered the strongest candidate even though Barcelona had a not so successful year when Liverpool came back in the Champions League semi-finals despite the first leg leading with a 3-0 safety margin.
Despite the club’s poor results, Messi still has 51 goals and 22 assists in 50 games for Barca. However, the five-time winner of this title has to compete with a very heavy opponent, Liverpool defender Virgril Van Dijk.
Messi leads the Ballon D’Or list.
According to the image on Twitter, Messi won the final with 446 points compared to Van Dijk’s 382 points, which is 64 more points. Voting is still going on, but it is not yet confirmed if the above images are official or not.
Besides, Van Dijk’s teammates, Mo Salah also kicked Ronaldo out of the top 3. However, this is not too surprising when the former Real Madrid striker had a very unsuccessful season when Juventus were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Besides, the failure to maintain a “terrible” performance like playing for the White Vulture also puts Ronaldo at a disadvantage in the Ballon D’Or race.
