Marta Kostyuk, who has lost all four WTA semi-finals in his previous appearances, saved a set-point from a 4-5 lead in the second set, before winning after 91 minutes. The first WTA women’s singles championship helped the Ukrainian beauty jump 12 more steps, climbing to the 40th position in the world.
Last year, Marta Kostyuk won her first WTA women’s doubles title in her career, at the Slovenia Open 2022, with Czech teammate Tereza Martincova. The tennis player born in 2002 also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, when paired with Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
Possessing blonde hair, a model-like body, the same height of 1m75, Marta Kostyuk is considered a new version of “Russian Doll” Maria Sharapova, who retired at the age of 32 in February 2020 with 36 titles. WTA women’s singles titles, including five Grand Slams.
