A source from Football Insider said, Chelsea are looking to extend the contract of Ian Maatsenthe talent just refused to join Burnley in the summer transfer window.
Last season, Ian Maatsen had a period of playing for the Turf Moor team on loan. He impressed coach Vincent Kompany with his industrious playing style, impressive defensive ability and was voted into the Championship team of the year.
He contributed a total of 4 goals and 6 assists in 42 appearances for The Clarets last season. Therefore, it is not surprising that Burnley wants Ian Maatsen to continue with Turf Moor when they have won promotion to the Premier League.
However, the mature talent from the Cobham furnace has refused the offer to continue working with coach Vincent Kompany. Instead, he wants to stay at Chelsea to compete for a place under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
With his natural position as left back, Ian Maatsen determined that he would have to rank behind Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella in the Blues’ selection order. However, the Dutchman is still quite versatile as he can also play as a left winger.
