Coach Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool players will reunite with Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League this season.
According to the draw results yesterday (November 7), Liverpool reunited with Real Madrid, the team they clashed in the Champions League final last season. Talking about the reunion on the Liverpool homepage, coach Klopp expressed excitement: “The first thing that I can say about this draw is that it is indeed the Champions League. This matchup is very interesting and we should be excited.”
“Liverpool have faced Real Madrid in the last few Champions League finals, but not often in the knockout stages. Now we are looking forward to the upcoming match between the two teams,” Klopp continued.
Real Madrid is the most successful club of all time in the Champions League with 14 titles. In the past 9 years, they have 5 times to the top of Europe. And Liverpool has won the Champions League 6 times and the last time was in the 2018/19 season.
“We know that Real Madrid have won the Champions League the most times but Liverpool’s record in this arena is also very good. Above all, we know that we are playing at Anfield and everyone knows what it means,” said coach Jurgen Klopp.
“Although there are still a few months to go before the matches, we don’t have to imagine much to imagine how the atmosphere at the two matches will be. This visit gives me something special to look forward to,” said the German coach.
Liverpool will play at home in the first leg on February 21, 2023. The second leg will take place at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium on March 15, 2023.
Since 2018 until now, Liverpool have faced Real Madrid 4 times in the Champions League. The Spanish team won 3. The last time the two teams met was in May 2022 when Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to a Vinicius goal to win the Champions League.
In the 2020/21 season, Real Madrid meet Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The British representative lost with a total score of 1-3 after two matches.
