Real Madrid have chosen Xabi Alonso as their coach from the 2024-2025 season, according to a report from Radio MARCA. A series of other Spanish media also confirmed Alonso’s reunion with his old team.
With Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian coach is expected to leave the club next summer to lead the Samba dancers, the Brazilian team.

Real Madrid chose Alonso as Ancelotti’s replacement.
In the early stages of his coaching career, Alonso immediately showed his talent when he breathed new life into Bayer Leverkusen. From being in the relegation position, the German team ended the 2022/23 season in 6th place and won a ticket to the Europa League. Their competition only stopped in the semi-finals when Xabi faced his former teacher Jose Mourinho on the coaching chair.
This season, with reasonable additions in the transfer market such as striker Victor Boniface or midfielder Granit Xhaka, Leverkusen is playing very well in all tournaments.
After 5 rounds in the Bundesliga this season, Leverkusen controlled the ball on average up to 59.4%, making 586 accurate passes (achieving a rate of 88.6). Scored an average of 3.4 goals/match, of which 15 goals came after 65 shots taken in the penalty area.
With his talent gradually being confirmed in the Bundesliga and his experience playing for Real Madrid, Alonso is clearly the right name for the Spanish team.
