Ramsdale was an important factor in Arsenal’s Premier League race last season even though the eventual champion was Manchester City. This season, he lost his position as number 1 goalkeeper to David Raya.
The Gunners decided to bring Raya on loan from Brentford and have the option to sign a permanent contract at the end of the season. Coach Mikel Arteta wants to create competition for Ramsdale after selling Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest.

Ramsdale is no longer Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper.
Ramsdale started Arsenal’s first four Premier League matches this season but Arteta later replaced him with Raya.
According to The Athletic, Ramsdale’s side was very surprised when the goalkeeper was not allowed to start in the opening match of the Champions League group stage against PSV after Arteta put Raya on the field in the match against Everton three days earlier.
However, there “isn’t any animosity” between these two goalkeepers even though Arteta is currently leaning more towards Raya. In fact, both Ramsdale and Raya’s performance in training is said to have increased and this is a good thing for Arsenal.
