Ian Maatsen, who mainly plays as a left-back but can also play as a winger, has made nine appearances for Chelsea this season. The Dutch player mainly plays as a substitute but has not been able to appear on the field from the bench in 4/5 of Chelsea’s last 5 matches in the Premier League.
Things are not currently going well for Maatsen, who is close to making a permanent £31.5 million move to Burnley in the summer of 2023. According to sources at Metro, Maatsen is currently being watched by West Ham United. David Moyes’ team wants to recruit Chelsea star in January.
Maatsen, who is under contract until the summer of 2025, recently hinted that he will need to make a “difficult choice” if his playing time under head coach Mauricio Pochettino does not improve:
“I have to play more to get a chance to play for the national team. I still think it can happen at Chelsea. As a young player, you always want to play more. I found confidence from his words. coach said and I’m ready when the opportunity comes.”
“In the meantime, I have to keep all options open. Maybe in the future I will have to make difficult choices, but then the club will point that out.”
