Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed on his official personal page the decision to fire coach Rudi Garcia after the defending Serie A champions’ poor results this season. He said: “The club has decided to dismiss Rudi Garcia from the role of head coach. We thank him and his staff for their cooperation so far.”
After that, president De Laurentiis announced the new coach with a brief message: “Welcome back Walter.“

Walter Mazzarri will lead Napoli until the end of this season.
Coach Walter Mazzarri led Napoli from October 2009 to May 2013 and won an Italian Super Cup title in the 2011/2012 season. During his time working at San Paolo Stadium, later renamed Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the Italian coach had 89 wins, 49 draws and 44 losses.
Recent information said that president De Laurentiis met Igor Tudor yesterday but the negotiations failed because the Croatian coach wanted a contract until June 2025. Meanwhile, Mazzarri is willing to accept a deal until the end of this season.
This shows that Mazzarri will be a temporary replacement before Napoli finds a more suitable coach next season.
