Specifically, the Luton Town homepage announced: “Daiki Hashioka became the first Japanese player to join the team, after signing the contract and passing the medical examination.
The 24-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee from Belgian top-flight club Sint-Truiden, where he has impressed since arriving in Europe in December 2021.
At his new club, Hashioka will wear the number 27 shirt. Born in Urawa, a northern suburb of Tokyo, Hashioka began his career at his hometown club, Urawa Reds. Here, he appeared 74 times in Japan’s top league.
Hashioka made his international debut in a 2-1 win over China in October 2019. To date, he has played for the national team 7 times.
This season Hashioka scored two goals and had two more assists in 18 appearances for Sint-Truiden.
Hashioka said: “Playing in the Premier League has always been my dream. This is a top tournament physically and technically and very intense, so I know it will be difficult but I will give my all for the team.
My strengths are heading, one-on-one situations and I run a lot. I only scored two goals this season but I want to score more.”
