Richardson, Ronaldo’s former teammate when he was at Man United, chose Messi instead of captaining Portugal, for the position of the best player in history. He claims that winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup has helped Messi rise above Ronaldo and become the undisputed best player.
Speaking on the podcast The Steven Sulley Study, Richardson said: “Both are GOAT, but if I had to choose one, I’d have to choose Messi, even though I know Ronaldo, I’ve played with Ronaldo and I love Ronaldo. both are great; both are GOATs. When they die, they will be remembered forever.”
Messi is still a bright star in Europe.
“But Messi won the world championship. Getting the World Cup is a great thing, because before Messi got the World Cup, people were saying: ‘yes, but he hasn’t won. He’s not. can’t be the best of all time because [Diego] Maradona won it; Pele won it’.”
