German player Karius – previously a free agent after leaving Liverpool in June – has agreed a deal to join Newcastle until January 2023 with the option to extend his stay until the end of the season.

The arrival of the 29-year-old goalkeeper after an ankle injury to Darlow during practice. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said: “We are delighted to add Loris to our team of goalkeepers. He’s a very good goalkeeper with Premier League and European experience so will provide competition and support for an important part of the season.”
However, the signing of Karius also made Newcastle receive a lot of irony. Karius was previously Liverpool’s No 1 goalkeeper of choice under manager Jurgen Klopp but no longer plays for the “Red Devils” after he made a silly mistake on two goals in the 1-3 defeat to Real Madrid. in the 2018 Champions League final. The German goalkeeper’s blunder became a hot topic on social media and forced coach Klopp to put Karius on the bench.
