In January 2020, Manchester United planned to recruit Jude Bellingham, but in the end the English midfielder decided to stay at Birmingham City until the end of the season before moving to Borussia Dortmund. Revealing more about this deal, journalist Ben Jacobs said:
“As far as I know, nothing really progresses although there have been reports of Manchester United offering between £25-30 million for the player. So Man United, of course, like any club, regrets not having Bellingham. And any team regrets that a few years ago, they could have recruited Bellingham for a much smaller amount of money.”

Bellingham has now developed into a world-class midfielder.
“However, I don’t think it’s that simple, because for Bellingham, it’s not just a decision related to football, it needs to be suitable for his development. And finally , not moving to Manchester United or joining a big club at that age was the right decision, because he chose to stay at Birmingham, play and show respect for them.”
“And when the time is right, Bellingham moves to Germany at a level where he can play.”
