If the Ballon d’Or is still in the old format, I will say no. But with a new format where individual performance takes precedence, I’ll be in. We demand votes for the player who impresses, makes the most impact, who of the decisive moments. I have two or three of those moments this season. I’m a candidate, of course, that’s true. Let’s wait and see.
Are people looking down on my performance? Maybe, but I don’t blame them. In France, they witnessed my growth, at PSG or with the national team. They’ve seen me score a lot of goals over the years. This gradually became normal in everyone’s eyes. I’m young, I used to be an observer not long before becoming the lead actor. And I used to normalize what Messi and Ronaldo showed. We are in a consumer society where people say “do it well but do it again”. And the truth is that I live right near them, in Paris. I think playing for PSG doesn’t help much because this team is too strong and the league is too stratified.
