Early this morning in Vietnam time (March 24), Bayern terminated the contract with coach Nagelsmann. This is a shocking decision because this young strategist just helped the Gray Lobster win tickets to the Champions League quarter-finals convincingly 10 days ago.
According to the German press, coach Nagelsmann himself did not expect to be fired by Bayern. The former captain of RB Leipzig has not received any direct contact from Bayern, but only heard about his future in the media, while enjoying a holiday in Austria.
Bayern are expected to make an official statement on Nagelsmann’s dismissal on Friday (March 24, local time), but everything has been decided internally in the past 5 to 6 hours. Thomas Tuchel – former head coach of Chelsea – will replace Nagelsmann in the vacant hot seat at the Allianz Arena.
The German press revealed that the reason why the Bayern leadership sacked Nagelsmann was because of the club’s poor performance in the Bundesliga. Currently, Bayern is only 2nd with 52 points, 1 point behind the leader Dortmund. The fact that the Gray Lobster is in danger of losing the Bundesliga championship is the source of Nagelsmann’s cost. The Bayern leadership considered this national team gathering a “golden opportunity” to make changes, so the verdict was made.
Besides professional problems, Nagelsmann also made Bayern’s dressing room turbulent. Last week, the 35-year-old leader publicly called a student a “mole” for sneaking information about the team’s tactics to the German media. All of this forces Bayern’s elite to make decisions quickly to avoid causing the club to fall apart at the end of the season.
Nagelsmann was appointed head coach by Bayern in 2021. During his time in office, he and the Gray Lobster won 3 titles including 1 Bundesliga and 2 German Super Cups.
