Onana was a £43.8m signing from Inter Milan in the summer. Cameroonian goalkeeper, 27 years old, was brought in to replace David de Gea. Onana is known for his ability to hold the ball with his feet and that is something De Gea lacks.
However, when commenting on Man Utd’s sluggish start to the season, striker Troy Deeney wrote in The Sun newspaper: “I do not have the impression that Man United is an organized club and ready to continue. There is nothing to suggest this will be the season they do that. In fact, I truly believe it will be a disappointing season as they finish around sixth place.”
“After all the praise given to him, what has Ten Hag actually done to change that? Who is the player he has signed that makes you think: Yes, he will be the player Man United’s players in the next 5 or 10 years?”
“The players Ten Hag has bought have not yet begun to be effective. In my opinion, even with their best signing, goalkeeper Andre Onana, he still scares me. I don’t see him as a goalkeeper who is guaranteed to keep clean sheets or as a commanding figure. Mount was in trouble. Rasmus Hojlund could be the difference but is still too young.”
