MU was announced to have reached an agreement in principle to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV instead of Ronaldo, in the winter transfer – January 2023.

Erik ten Hag decided to ‘clean up’ the noise Ronaldo by asking MU Early termination of the contract with the Portuguese superstar after a “disruptive” interview with the club.

And the next thing he quickly started doing was to bring in a striker to replace Ronaldo at the winter market, for MU.

Cody Gakpo and Rafael Leao are on the shortlist, but negotiating with the first player is more feasible, both in terms of price and persuading PSV to release.

That’s because in the summer transfer, MU raised a problem with Cody Gakpo, but because of the priority to sign Antony from Ajax, it had to drop the deal.

Now, the situation is different, MU needs more manpower for the attack when there is no Ronaldo. According to Football Insider, MU has reached an agreement in principle to bring Cody Gakpo to Old Trafford in January 2023.

Cody Gakpo is the prominent name of the Dutch team after the first two matches at the 2022 World Cup, when he scored both against Senegal and Ecuador. In this season, the 23-year-old star is also in impressive form with 12 goals and 15 assists for PSV in all competitions.

When asked about the connection of MU, Cody Gakpo did not shy away but stated that his focus was on the World Cup first.

“It’s great to hear but now I’m just focused on the World Cup here. I’ll see what happens in the winter. In football, anything is possible.”
