According to the latest announcement from the Manchester Red Devils, defenders Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe will leave the team after the contract expires. Five young players including Ethan Galbraith, Di’Shon Bernard, Eric Hanbury, Charlie Wellens and Manni Norkett were also not retained by MU.
Goalkeeper David de Gea’s contract expires this summer but there is no official word on a new deal yet. However, he is also not on the list of players to leave.
A United statement said: “As for David de Gea, discussions are still ongoing over a potential new contract. Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have extended their contracts until 2024.
“Extensions have also been completed for youth team defenders Rhys Bennett and Ethan Laird. Meanwhile, Under-21 coach Tom Huddlestone is expected to stay on after discussing a new contract. Young striker Mateo Mejia has also been offered a new deal.
It is noteworthy that striker Mason Greenwood is still kept on the list of players for the 2023/24 season. Greenwood was banned by MU from playing internally since his girlfriend Harriet Robson sued for violent and life-threatening behavior.
In February this year, the striker was released and all charges cleared after Harriet Robson withdrew his application. Now the couple has resumed their love and the English striker is about to welcome his first child.
Man United said it was investigating internally to see if the player had damaged the image of the team and breached the contract. Greenwood is kept because he still has a contract with MU. This has nothing to do with internal disciplinary action.
