Football-italia revealed Mourinho ordered Roma members not to speak to the media after the match. The Portuguese coach wants the team to forget the defeat against Fiorentina to prepare for the Europa League final against Sevilla on June 1.
The “Special One” was banned from directing in the last round of Serie A when he received a yellow card in the second half of the match against Fiorentina. This is the 5th yellow card from the beginning of the 2022/23 season in the domestic league, meaning Mourinho immediately received a 1-match ban.
Like the previous rounds, Mourinho continued to launch a squad of many substitutes to face Fiorentina. Stephan El Shaarawy’s early goal did not help Roma win 3 points. Jonathan Ikone and Luka Jovic scored 2 goals to help the home team come back to win 2-1. This defeat makes Roma run out of opportunities to be in the top 4 of Serie Athereby not being able to qualify for the Champions League next season.
However, the door is not closed for Roma yet. The Rome team still has the opportunity to attend the Champions League 2023/24 if they beat Sevilla in the Europa League final on June 1.
Roma suffered a loss of force before the final when El Shaarawy suffered a muscle injury and had to leave the field at the beginning of the second half against Fiorentina. The ability of this 30-year-old striker to play against Sevilla is still open.
Mourinho was praised for helping Roma to two consecutive finals in two years. In the 2021/22 season, the Portuguese coach led Roma to the UEFA Conference League championship. Currently, the Serie A representative is only one match away from the Europa League title.
Before Mourinho joined the team in the summer of 2021, Roma had only twice reached the European Cup final (European Cup 1983/84, UEFA Cup 1990/91) and both failed.
