L’Equipe revealed that coach Jose Mourinho is close to the prospect of leading PSG next season. The “Special One” is excited about leading a team as strong and ambitious as the Parc des Princes club. Mourinho’s close relationship with Luis Campos, PSG’s sporting director, is also a big reason for this deal to happen. Mourinho and Campos have known each other since “The Special One” was at university in Portugal.
The PSG leadership believes that Mourinho is the most suitable coach to help the club win the Champions League. The “Special One” experienced a tumultuous 2022/23 season with AS Roma. He helped the Italian capital club reach the final of the Europa League, but in Serie A, AS Roma declined and almost no longer had a chance to reach the top 4.
Only a victory over Sevilla in the Europa League final will help Roma achieve their goal of qualifying for the Champions League. Recently, Mourinho expressed displeasure with the views of many members of the Roma leadership when they said that the goal of this club from the beginning of the season was to attend the Champions League.
“Who says that going to the Champions League is Roma’s goal, I don’t say that,” Mourinho said on May 22, “Going to the Champions League after spending 7 million euros in the transfer market is not a miracle. It’s like God coming to Rome and walking around the Vatican with me.”
Mourinho still has a contract with Roma until 2024, but the lack of investment from the Italian club’s leadership makes the “Special One” ready to leave if PSG asks. Besides PSG, Real Madrid is another big club that is said to have approached Mourinho.
