Two Manchester United legends are famous for their superb free-kick technique during their time at Old Trafford, in which Beckham’s 18 direct free kicks set a Premier League record. Besides, Ronaldo’s free-kicks are especially impressive for Mount, who witnessed the moment his boyhood team Portsmouth suffered in January 2008.
Mount said on the MU homepage: “I was there, in the game to support my team Portsmouth and was able to witness that special moment. Ronaldo’s goal inspired me.
Witnessing that special moment at Old Trafford, I was in awe of that iconic goal. So now I really want to do that at MU.”
“Becks is also a big inspiration to me. I grew up with his free-kicks, and I admire his technique,” Mount added.
Like Beckham and Ronaldo, Mount is the latest player to wear the iconic Manchester United number 7 shirt. The 24-year-old promises to give his all as he follows in the footsteps of some of the greats of the Red Devils.
“I know the history and understand the responsibility that comes with this shirt. The most important thing for me is to earn the fans’ trust and I will work hard to achieve that. I won’t let you guys down. not disappointed,” added Mount.
