Just weeks after arriving in the United States, Lionel Messi inspired Inter Miami to a historic Leagues Cup championship. Not stopping there, the Argentine superstar also helped David Beckham’s team win a place in the US Open Cup final.
With MLS, the championship journey of Messi and his teammates is extremely thorny. Inter Miami is still 8 points behind the play-off group. However, Messi believes that everything is possible.
“This team is improving day by day. I’ve been saying it since the start of all of this, we were lucky to be in a tournament and get to the final. Now, we will look to achieve our goal of being among the top 8 teams to try to win the tournament championship. This is a long journey. We continue to improve and obviously the victory brings a lot of confidence,” Messi shared on MLS Season Pass after the 3-1 victory over LAFC.
Inter Miami is currently unbeaten in 11 matches in all competitions since Messi arrived. The owner of 7 Golden Balls was happy when that streak was extended even though the opponent was the defending MLS Cup champion.
“We talked about it before the game, that this will be a quality test for us to see where we really are and what our capabilities are. It’s a tough place to play against a very strong opponent, the current champion. We came away with a very important result for what is to come.”
In the next match, Inter Miami will test their true strength without Lionel Messi. Accordingly, El Pulga cannot play against Sporting Kansas City because of FIFA Days with Argentina.
