Inter Miami striker Lionel Messi has officially passed nominated for Rookie of the Year award at Major League Soccer. Messi is also considered the best candidate to win the Ballon D’or after leading Argentina to the World Cup championship.
Giorgos Giakoumakis of Atlanta United and Eduard Löwen of St. Louis City SC are the other players nominated for the MLS award. This is the title that the American Football Federation gives to the best player coming to the American Professional League in 2023.

Messi was nominated as MLS Newcomer for the 2023 season.
Messi caused a stir in the soccer world when he moved from PSG to MLS bottom-ranked team Inter Miami this summer. After joining Miami, he continued to lead the home team to a surprising championship at the 2023 MLS Open Cup.
The 36-year-old recently quashed rumors that he would leave Miami on a short-term loan to return to Europe or spend time in Saudi Arabia during the break between his two MLS seasons.
He also praised his team on his personal Instagram: “I’m proud of everything the team has achieved this season.”
