Mbappe was chosen to be the captain of the French team, not Griezmann.
According to L’Equipe (France), Kylian Mbappe wants to talk to Antoine Griezmann on Tuesday this week, just a day after the PSG striker was selected as the captain of the continental team. Mbappe seems to know that Griezmann is disappointed not to be given the captain’s armband.
The 24-year-old wants to avoid causing any discomfort and hopes to defuse the situation. Mbappe has shared with Griezmann that he understands the frustration of the Atletico Madrid striker. Mbappe also said that he does not intend to monopolize the captaincy of France.
As for Griezmann, the 32-year-old striker is disappointed but still seems to want to focus and devote to the French team.
Meanwhile, Mbappe will have his first press conference as captain of France this Thursday afternoon, ahead of the match against the Netherlands (2h45, March 25) in the EURO 2024 qualifying round.
Mbappe has taken on the captaincy of France in place of Hugo Lloris, who retired from international football after the 2022 World Cup. Mbappe is one of the best strikers in the world right now. At the 2022 World Cup, this striker won the top scorer with 8 goals. To date, the French player has 12 goals and 2 assists in two World Cups.
Meanwhile, Griezmann scored 42 goals for France in 117 appearances. He is one of the senior players at “Les Bleus” and made a great contribution to the 2018 World Cup championship.
