In Portugal’s March call-up list, new head coach Roberto Martinez called Cristiano Ronaldo’s name. In the 2022 World Cup, Ronaldo only played a backup role, sparking CR7’s future in the team. However, Martinez still decided to continue giving the striker the opportunity to be born in 1985.
Explaining the reason for choosing Ronaldo, Martinez shared:
“Ronaldo is a very dedicated player, he can bring experience and is a very important character, I don’t look at age. Ronaldo can help the team.”

Martinez explains why he summoned Ronaldo.
“The list of 26 players for the World Cup is a starting point for me, and Ronaldo is one of the players on this list. He’s been with the national team for 19 years and deserves respect to be able to sit down and talk.”
Portugal will prepare for 2 matches in the EURO 2024 qualifying round. Their opponents are Liechtenstein and Luxembourg on March 24 and March 27, respectively. The remaining three opponents in Group J are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia and Iceland.
