In a recent interview, Marco Verratti admitted that he still holds out hope of playing for the Italian national team in the future, even though he has been going to Qatar to “retire” since the beginning of the season. The former Paris Saint-Germain player also understands that the opportunities for him are not many.

Marco Verratti still hopes to return to the national team.
“I am always ready to represent my country. I know it’s difficult, especially when I’m playing in Qatar, but I knew that before signing for Al-Arabi. However, Spalletti has my phone number and he can call me if he wants me to play for the national team,” Marco Verratti shared.
Marco Verratti has played for the Italian national team since August 2012, scoring 3 goals in 55 appearances. However, with his departure from Paris Saint-Germain in the last summer transfer window, he is no longer in the plans of new coach Luciano Spalletti.

Marco Verratti was once a mainstay in the national team.
Although many big European clubs like Barcelona or Manchester City were paying attention, Marco Verratti decided to retire from top football to move to Qatar because he did not want to face PSG in the future.
